The Nababa rugby 7s side continues to train and prepare for major local 7s tournaments despite having limited funds.

The Lami based community team was established last year by the local boys within the Lami community and with team work and dedication the team continues to drive towards success.

Team captain Lote Matetani confirmed to SUNsports the team was formed by brothers who thought of a positive way forward for the community.

“It was last year when we formed our rugby club; it was formed by few brothers who thought that it would be a better idea to engage youths in some activities like rugby,” Matetani said.

“This got all the boys from the community to join our rugby club and that was why we call ourselves Nababa because players from all over the community come together to get us moving forward.”

Despite the team having no major sponsors the community continues to fundraise for their various expenses.

“We normally have our own fundraisings where everyone in the community contributes,” Matetani said.

The team’s first local tournament was the 2015 Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s.

“It was a good exposure for the boys and we are looking forward for another good season,” Matetani said.

The Lami based side will be participating in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s which starts on Friday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
