As works on the new $7.5 million Denarau Bridge continues, it has been confirmed that the project has faced a bit of delay.

It is now likely to be completed by June as opposed to the initial projection of around this time.

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) acting chief executive, Rory Garland, confirmed: “The bridge construction schedule has experienced some delays thus affecting the original completion date.”

He said Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston and Tropical Cyclone Zena along with the recent flooding in Nadi did affect the work but ‘not substantially’.

“Construction of bridge abutment on the Denarau side, location of services.

“And the placement of the steel bridge supporting beams are works that are currently in progress.”

Mr Garland said in the coming weeks, they are liaising with Government utility service providers.

“This is to begin the process of installing services across the bridge, including installation of bridge beams and construction of bridge abutment on Denarau side,” he said.

Vehicles going into and coming out of Denarau are using the Bailey bridge as the contractors, Pacific Marine and Civil Solutions, continue with the works on the new bridge.
