The Aminiasi Nava-captained Army Green will be one of the teams competing this weekend at the 2016 Fiji Bitter Marist 7s at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The team are pooled in Pool 10 alongside Mt Victoria, Red Diamond (3FIR) and Waimanu Gold.

Team manager Eroni Koroi said they will continue their winning campaign after a 22-7 victory over Army Red in the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s last weekend.

“It was a good build-up as Army Green is our Team 1 and Army Red is sort of our Team B. It was interesting to see them defy the odds to reach the finals,” he said.

“We had a trial and we picked the finest players available locally to play for the two Army sides. We know the competition will be tough but these boys know when to deliver.”

The side will be banking on former Nadi XV reps Joeli Lesavua, national 7s rep Juita Takubu, Jone Saunivalu and new find winger Alosio Naduva.

Naduva, a Naweni native from Cakaudrove, dazzled the crowd with his brilliant speed and scored twice in the final.

“He is a good player with brilliant speed and he could be those players needed in the national team,” added Koroi.

Army Red, captained by Peni Naruma, is in Pool 8 with top seed Uluinakau Babas, First Light Winston and Savuiqali.

The side features playmaker Inia Tawalo among the players to watch in the two-day event.

The pool games get underway tomorrow with finals on Saturday.
