A Lautoka Hospital patient went berserk and allegedly  stabbed two security officers and attacking a nurse on Friday before he was restrained.

The 60-year-old started throwing things around following what is believed to be an argument about the administering of medication at 6pm in the Men’s Medical Ward.

He allegedly pulled a tube light out of its fitting, broke it and used the jagged end to stab one security guard on the chin and another on the arm.

Inspector Josaia Weicavu said two security guards, aged 58 and 21, and a 26-year-old nurse were the victims.

A witness, who did not wish to be identified, said the man started arguing with the nurse before he became violent.

The commotion attracted the attention of nurses and security officers who were on duty on the ground floor.

The security officers rushed into the ward and while trying to subdue the patient, got stabbed.

The patient was finally overpowered before Police were called in.

The security guards were treated at the hospital.

Inspector Weicavu said the patient would be interrogated once released from hospital.

He is currently under Police guard and investigation continues.
