The Ba football team beat the Regional Academy side 3-1 during their Vodafone Premier League clash at the Fiji FA Academy Ba grounds yesterday

What Happened: Ba took control of the match and never allowed the Academy side to settle down. They scored the first goal through stylish midfielder Malakai Tiwa and kept on pressuring the Academy defence.

Continuous pressure took its toll on the Academy defence and veteran Avinesh Waran Swamy extended Ba’s lead with a brilliant goal.

Half time: Ba 2-0 Regional Academy

In the second half Ba scored another goal through Swamy as they increased their lead to 3-0. But the Academy players never lost hope and kept on trying until they were rewarded with a consolation goal to Kartik Kumar.

Big plays: Swamy kept tight control of Ba’s game and scored twice in this encounter

Comments: Ba football manager Arvind Singh welcomed the win but indicated that there is still a lot of work to be done.

“The boys played a good game but the performance of the players needs upgrading. The players will undergo more training sessions and tackle each game by not undermining the opposition. This is going to start from our next game.

“We will work on our weak areas and we will definitely lift our game to the next level.”

Regional Academy assistant coach Ronil Lal was happy with the efforts shown by the players.

“The team played good soccer and I’m happy with their performance. The boys played against our national reps and have showed improvements.

“Nonetheless, we need to focus on our weak areas like our finishing. The boys let go of many opportunities where they could have scored.”
