A new secondary school is likely to be set up in Korolevu along the Coral Coast.

Newly-appointed district officer Korolevu Filipe Cula said this was a critical issue that the community along the coast was trying to improve.

“One of the projects that are still in the talks is the planning to build a new secondary school in Korolevu,” Mr Cula said.

“There is no secondary school in the district therefore the Government is looking along this line.

“We have seen how people along this area fundraise a lot in the beginning of the year to cater for the travelling expense of students to attend secondary schools.

“This is as far as St John College in Cawaci, Ovalau and some students attend schools as far as Lautoka and Suva.

“So the Government’s plan is to build a new Secondary school which will be a boarding school to cater for students nearby.”

He said the villages of Tagaqe, Biausevu, Malevu, Vatukarasa, Namada, and Votualailai and the neighbouring island of Vatulele were earmarked to benefit from this project.

“When you look at the number of students that are attending secondary school to distant places, this idea will definitely ease the burdens from parents’ shoulders,” Mr Cula said.

Currently there is only one secondary school present nearby which is Nasikawa Vision College and is managed by Korean missionaries,

The other nearby schools are Ratu Latianara College is situated in Korovisilou, and Lomary Secondary School in Serua but is quite a distance apart.
