One of the most influential executives of hotels along the Coral Coast has urged tourists from Australia and New Zealand to make a commitment to return to Fiji year after year.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager, Peter Hopgood, stressed as tourism remains the backbone of the Fijian economy, returnees play a major role.

Mr Hopgood made these comments to guests attending the ANZAC Day service at the Coral Coast yesterday.

“Let us commit to returning to this beautiful country year after year for our holidays and continue to build on the friendship that we Fijians so willing provide,” he said.

Mr Hopgood said there have been challenges faced by the country over the past three months with Cyclone Winston, Cyclone Zena and the floods taking a toll causing destruction.

He said the only way they could assist best was simply book a Fijian holiday and help rebuild Fiji.

Mr Hopgood said the residents of Australia and New Zealand were indeed very lucky to have luxury and freedom to be able to take holidays in this beautiful country.

“These warm and engaging people (all Fijians) welcome us into their villages and their hearts and for this we are eternally grateful,” he said.

Mr Hopgood has been part of the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort for the past six and half years whereby the resort has hosted six ANZAC Day Services.
