National snooker representative, Krishneel Naicker has set his eyes on winning the Pinto Industries Limited’s Double Snooker League Championship.

The 10-week competition, which featured 30 players kicked-off at the Labasa Club last Sunday. In February, this year the 21-year-old Vunika native outside Labasa was the country’s lone representative to the Oceania Snooker League in Sydney, Australia.

“Participating in this championship is a challenging thing for me,” he said.

“I’m very thankful to the management of Labasa Club for making every effort to promote and develop snooker competition in Labasa. It provides a platform for existing snooker players and new ones also to use their talent and move to another level of competition.”

Naicker said that he had started playing snooker at the age of 17.

“I believe there is more room for improvement and opportunities.”

Labasa Club president Deewan Chand said the winner would receive $500 and special prizes would be given to the runners-up and the two losing semi-finalists.

He also confirmed that each player had to pay $3 for entry fee.

The competition will be held only on Sundays from 11am to 5pm.
