Three youths from Waya Island in the Yasawa were arrested by Police on Sunday and have been charged with larceny and assault of a teacher and three fishermen.

The Police party left Lautoka on Saturday for Waya to conduct investigations after the teacher and fishermen were assaulted.

It is believed the fishermen sought shelter at the teacher’s home at the school after a night’s fishing last week.

The next morning they woke to find some of their catch missing and their outboard engine damaged.

It is believed that the men then approached one of the villagers they suspected and an argument broke out.

It was still unclear how many villagers were involved in the assault and the extent of damage to the outboard engine and the injuries sustained by the teacher and fishermen.

The three youths are to appear at the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court today.

Education officer West Albert Wise has also confirmed that the ministry would also be conducting its own investigations.
