Samabula Accident Driver Surrenders Himself

The 49 year old driver who was driving the Toyota Fielder Rental car on Sunday morning and was involved in a fatal accident along the Ratu Mara Road, is now in custody at the Samabula Police Station.

The alleged driver, Ponipate Turalevu surrendered himself at the Samabula Police Station this morning.

He is currently in custody and is expected to  be questioned soon.

The Police has once again reiterated to the general public to be mindful of their safety whilst on the road this weekend.

“Those drivers that will be hiring Rental cars are expected to be fully aware of their responsibility in driving these types of vehicles and Rental car owners are expected to be fully aware of the conditions in place when renting out their vehicles.

“Drivers are expected to be responsible when using the road and have respect for other road users,” a Police statement said.

Police officers are expected to be out in numbers on the road this weekend as a lot of movements are anticipated. This anticipation comes into the build up towards the upcoming Secondary School Coca Games and the end of a school term.

Drivers that will be conveying these children to their various destinations are expected to drive within the required speed limit and not to rush when conveying children. Those drivers that will be caught not adhering to Road Rules or Safety will be dealt with according to the Law.
