Raviravi, Nabouwalu Bua native Petero Tuisiga aims to win a gold medal for his people back home.

Tuisiga is one of the medal prospects for Bua College in the junior boys 800m event.

“Our village was badly affected by TC Winston, our house was partially destroyed and our plantations were badly affected we almost lost everything.

“In this year’s game, my aim is to win gold medal and make my people back home proud,” Tuisiga said.

“It was a frightening experience for me.”

Team manager Jonacani Mataitoga said following the devastation of Cyclone Winston they had to gather the athletes at the school to camp and prepare for the games.

“Most of these athletes were traumatised and were mentally affected so we had to bring all these athletes together in school and camp for almost three weeks.

“We have to prepare them physically, mentally and spiritually and that really took time for us but we are glad that they are now focused for the game,” Mataitoga said.

The school won a bronze medal in the junior boys 800m last year.
