A Suva family, who had lost everything earlier this year in a fire, is now in dire need of help and is asking for assistance to rebuild their lives.

Navinesh and Fozia Krishna spoke about the fire that consumed all their belongings at their house in Komave Settlement in Nabua. Their house was one of the five corrugated iron houses that had burned down with the Christian Life Church on March 19, 2016.

The couple highlighted lack of parental supervision as the cause of the fire as residents of the back flat , where the fire had started, were not present when their children were lighting candles during a power blackout.

Mr and Mrs Krishna and their eight-year-old son were unaware that the fire had slowly spread from the back flat. It was only until a neighbour alerted them then they realised what was happening.

“There was no supervision and no precaution taken; five family homes and belongings were destroyed; everything gone in seconds. If only the children were supervised; if only they were taught what not to do,” Mr Krishna said.

“We are thankful that our lives were spared. We are thankful to Red Cross and social welfare and our parents for supporting and assisting our family,” he said.

The family is now staying at Mr Krishna’s parent’s house in Lagilagi Housing, off Gaji Road in Samabula.  Any form of assistance given will be highly appreciated by the couple.
