The Fiji-USA business council held their annual general meeting on Wednesday. It was an opportunity for business leaders to participate and be informed about the Council activities.

The council has become a mediator between the exporters and the US counterparts with around 47 members and a new investor joining, the Pernix Group.

The re-elected president for the council, Narendra Reddy said:“Sometimes they run into problems of getting things and if they can come through the council.’’

“Challenge is that it is difficult to get members to talk about the difficulties they are facing.

“Our biggest exports are Fiji Water, kava and other vegetables which have been affected during Cyclone Winston. Fiji Water wasn’t affected much, maybe some damages to Fiji Water facilities but overall the export has been continuing and there are other small items which are being exported.”

“We look forward to have a better year 2016, as most of the good happenings at the end of the year happens because the Cyclone and other things,” Mr Reddy said.

“Our year ends in February but the meeting was delayed due to the cyclone and flooding, but as we go along, maybe June, July we will have more events where we will get more investors and also have members to come and participate to exchange knowledge within ourselves.

“The council will have Jitendra Singh, Commissioner from Fiji to US and some other speakers to talk about how people could have better ways to export,” he said.

“The US is a vast area, so we are trying to work with the Trade Commissioner and see if there are people interested to come here. We cannot cover all of the US because of the cost factor.

“Now that Fiji Airways has opened route from Nadi to San Francisco is an added advantage to our exporters.”

FMF’s Group Export Manager Jason Chandra is now an executive board member, after being a member for past two years.
