An 18-year-old student of Korovuto Secondary School, who was involved in a road accident outside Nadi, is slowly recovering in hospital.

This is after she had undergone two operations involving one of her legs.

Marica Reapi was walking towards the shop when the incident happened at the Sonaisali junction on the April 16.

Police did say that it was a result of a two-car smash-up; a minivan driven by a 45-year-old man was heading towards Nadi when it collided with a private vehicle driven by a 55-year-old man who was making a right turn into the Sonaisali road.

Her cousin Unaisi Lotu, 22, said her cousin  was slowly recovering on her hospital bed.

“She has just finished her second surgery and they have taken out the plaster cast and have replaced it with metal cast for support in her leg,” Ms Lotu said.

“We have been with her all this while for her to be alright and we are relieved. We cannot wait to see her come home.”

Ms Lotu said that her cousin can talk but the doctors have not confirmed when she will be discharged.

“I will pay her a visit tomorrow (today).”

In the process of the collision, the minivan driver hit the victim who was walking along the road. She was then rushed to Nadi Hospital and later transferred to the Lautoka Hospital.
