The Fiji Roads Authority reached another milestone yesterday as a one-kilometre new two-lane link road was officially opened to Nadi traffic yesterday.

The newly-constructed two-lane road consists of three-kilometre lengths that link up Queens Road, Wailoaloa Road with Denarau Road, two-kilometre lengths were opened earlier.

FRA programme manager for the Nadi and Suva Road Upgrading Project (NASRUP) Zaina Khan said, “The route represents of the new link to Denarau through Nadi Airport, connecting communities of Wailoaloa, Narewa and Denarau.”

“The China Railway 5th group has just completed the works to the level that we open to traffic but there is a lot of works required to bring up the quality of the footpath, landscaping and legalisation of the land acquisition as part of this road upgrade.”

No right turn

Ms Khan also advised motorists travelling towards Northern Press Road to access Queens Road at Enamanu Road via the newly-opened link road.

“We would like to advise motorists that Wailoaloa Road at the junction with Queens road will in the interim have to be restricted to a left-turn only for the safety of all motorists and pedestrians until the upgrade of all roads at this intersection are complete,” he said.

“We are advising local bus operators, via the assistance of the Land Transport Authority about the ‘no-right’ turn at this junction.”

She said the Fiji Police Force would be monitoring traffic using the new link road.

Ms Khan has advised motorists to take extra care driving in Nadi over the next few weeks whilst members of the public, both drivers and pedestrians, get used to the new link road and associated traffic arrangements.
