Motorists are requested to be mindful of ongoing road works and cooperate with authorities to avoid accidents.

Of particular concern is the behavior of drivers using the Queens Road along the Namaka corridor where works by Fiji Roads Authority is currently in progress.

Over the past four days eight accidents have been recorded and this included two involving pedestrians.

We are asking drivers and pedestrians to be mindful of the changes in the traffic arrangements in place and to also abide by the temporary speed limit of 30 km/h set in place by authorities.

We request drivers to be vigilant and mindful of the FRA officials working as well as other road users.

Meanwhile in another incident recorded in the Western Division, a 10 year old boy was hit by a private car driven by a 26 year old man of Saru, Lautoka when he allegedly ran across the road along Namoli Avenue in Lautoka.

The incident occurred at 1925hrs when the child was heading into the city with his father.

The driver failed to stop after the accident and was found later and brought in for questioning.

The child is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital for observation while the driver remains in custody as investigations continue.

Again we plead to drivers to be mindful of children and at the same time reiterate the need for parents and guardians to talk about proper road behavior with their children.
