The Northern Division has recorded 73 typhoid cases from the month of January to June 24 this year.

This was confirmed by the Northern Divisional Medical Officer (DMO) Doctor Tevita Qoriniasi yesterday.

“Last month we received a lot of typhoid cases from Naduri Village in Macuata Province,” Dr Qoriniasi said.

“During week 19 we received eight typhoid cases from one side of Naduri Village.

Dr Qoriniasi said they had deployed medical teams to provide medical attention to these patients and advise villagers about the importance of normal sanitary procedures.

“The medical team also travelled to Seaqaqa, Tabia and the interior part of Naduri educating people on typhoid and health safety measures to be taken, such as washing hands before and after eating food, washing hands after using the toilet, washing hands after touching animal pet, boil drinking water and maintaining personal hygiene,” Dr Qoriniasi said.

“This is week 25 and we have managed to contain the spread of typhoid. Nevertheless, we continue to advise people in Macuata to take extra precautions.”
