The ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (FETA) has provided an important platform to recognise innovative and successful tourism operators and individuals in Fiji.

These were the sentiments of ANZ Fiji acting chief executive officer Saud Minam during the launch of the 2016 ANZ FETA season in Suva yesterday.

The launch officially marks the second year of ANZ’s three year naming rights sponsorship with FETA.

Mr Minam said this reaffirmed ANZ’s commitment to the tourism industry in Fiji through their support of the premier event.

“It shows that our exposure towards the tourism industry is close to almost the same level as the Government GDP. In terms of making sure that we provide the level of service which we need to provide, we’ll make sure that we continue to commit to that sector.

“This is something that is not new to ANZ as we have done this before. Last year was a great success I must say,” he said.

FETA board of trustees member Dixon Seeto said the trustees were very happy with the sponsorship towards the major tourism event.

“With the interest generated last year and what we have seen this year, it’s going to be an even greater success. Our organising chair for the event is doing a lot of work in that respect,” Mr Seeto said.

“We are going to open the entries to the various categories mainly to the hotels and the various people’s categories.”

Mr Seeto said this year they would be doing things a little differently with an inclusion of a renowned business professional in the judging panel.

“With the event having been successful for many years, every now and then we take a review of how we do things and what we do.”

Applications will open from August 1 which is then followed by a judging process. The winners are then announced at the awards dinner which usually attracts over 500 guests. The awards dinner is tentatively scheduled for Friday February 17, 2017.
