The Western Housing Assistance and Relief Trust (HART) organised a Craft Show and Family Day event at Lautoka HART Home grounds which started yesterday.

HART field officer and event organiser Mereani Camailakeba said this was a great opportunity for ladies to sell their creative work and earn some money.

“We mostly have single mothers staying in the HART Homes and most of them are still struggling. Therefore, events as such are good as they can sell their art work and earn  a few dollars for themselves,” Ms Camailakeba said.

Benefitting mothers

HART Fiji chief executive officer Paserio Furivai said HART Homes were one of the many challenging communities he had worked with and events as such would definitely benefit the mothers.

He said the fair would give an opportunity for the mothers of the community to meet and improve on their relationship with other women.

“Meeting women from other communities keeps them occupied and also helps them earn as well.”

The two-day event finishes this afternoon at the Lautoka HART Homes. 14 stalls are being set up for use by women from Rakiraki, Ba, Nadi and Lautoka to sell their craft.
