Australian-based Newport will return next year to defend the Jack’s Fiji Tanoa.
This was confirmed yesterday by officials of the Bula Cup competition, which is backed by the Nadi Primary Rugby Association.

Competition official Rusi Ratakele said the success of this year’s tournament was through the support of the parents.
“It was totally different as parents came in big numbers,” he said.
Ratakele said Newport came with 27 players so they had to use a couple of Mount St Mary’s and Namaka Public School players.
“It’s great to see the local boys gel with the Australian players to showcase their talents,” he said.
“There is potential with our local boys but discipline was the main factor which saw two local boys being flashed the yellow cards.

Overall I’m really impressed with the local boys and the big hit from Newport.”
Jack’s Fiji came onboard to provide the Jack’s Tanoa which Newport were the first recipient.

“The Jack’s Tanoa will be competed on a annual basis. Jack’s Fiji provided two war clubs to the best backline and forward players.
The association officials were surprised after the games when they received two set of jerseys, rugby balls and rugby boots from the visitors.

Ratakele said they are grateful to the Nadi Rugby Union for supporting the grass root level while Jack’s Fiji has made a difference by supporting the annual competition.
