Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho confirmed Police officers removed the Morning Star flag representing the West Papuan pro-independence movement from the Pacific Conference of Churches compound.
He also confirmed that a political gathering was stopped because the Pacific Conference of Churches was given a permit for a church service and not a political gathering or demonstration. Speculation was rife on social media that the flags were removed after pressure by the Indonesia Embassy.
Mr Qiliho said they do not comment on such speculations.
