CONFIRMED: Marist to face Lelean,

Grammar take on QVS in quarterfinals

 

Marist Brothers High School successfully defended the Coke Zero Deans Trophy’s Southern Zone Under-18 title yesterday.

The marking is now on the wall as the Flagstaff-based school as they chase for  the prestigious Deans Trophy.

Yesterday, Marist overcame a strong challenge from Nasinu Secondary School to win the final 36-26 at Suva Grammar School grounds.

In the third and fourth playoffs, Suva Grammar School stamped their mark with an impressive 24-0 win over John Wesley College 24-0. The win means that Suva Grammar also qualifies for the Deans Trophy national playoff.

As zone champions Marist now face the third placed team from the Eastern Zone while Nasinu Secondary take on the U18 champions from the West. As third placed Suva Grammar are going to battle the champion school from the Eastern Zone.

RESULTS:

In the U19 Nasinu Secondary edged out Lomaivuna High School 10-8 in the final while Marist took out third place by beating John Wesley College 15-13.

In the U17 final, Ratu Sukuna Memorial School were strong for Marist winning 12-8 while LDS took out the third spot with a 10-3 win over St Bedes College.

The U16 final saw Marist beat John Wesley College 28-17 while SGS won third place with a 22-17 win over RSMS.

In the U15 final Nasinu beat Marist 15-13 while Suva Grammar thumped Marist 12-0 in the U14 final.

Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union executive Biu Colati anticipates an exciting national quarterfinals in the following weeks.

“The competition will be very competitive and now that in one of the U18 quarterfinals will see Marist play Lelean Memorial School and one of the southern zone most improved team Suva Grammar School take on Eastern Zone champions Queen Victoria School.

“This is going to be exciting and we are all looking forward to the national quarterfinals,” Colati added.
