Sisilia Seavula is grateful to be given the nod to represent Fiji in athletics at the Rio Olympics next month.

But she wishes her father, a former policeman who died during the political upheaval in 2000, was alive to witness all that she had achieved.

“Just to share with him all my achievements,”Seavula said.

“But I know he’s looking down from heaven and smiling, I actually feel that he helps me spiritually in every meet I compete in. He is my guardian angel.”

Seavula however counts herself blessed to have three important people in her life who have always stood by her side.

“Mum (Akeneta Seavula) and brothers (Viliame and Dan Seavula) have always been there for me, supporting me since I started competing 12years ago.

“They have been my backbone and have sacrificed so much for me. Their words of encouragement have kept me going.

“I dedicate this trip to them and words can’t explain how appreciative I am for them.”

Seavula was given the universality place (wildcard) because of her consistency in training and she’s grateful to God for his never ending blessings.

“I feel honoured and humbled to be given this opportunity to represent Fiji and being an ‘Olympian’ it’s a dream come true!

“When I was younger, I told myself that I would one day go to the Olympics but I never knew it would be this early,” she said.

Preparations

“Preparations have been tough. Had to lose a bit more weight I gained in the United States and my coach has been really working me hard at the tracks for the past weeks. Getting the flu was a big barrier to getting a personal best at the recent Melanesian Athletics Championships but I told myself to “keep on keeping on.

Proudest Moment

“I would say being selected to go to Rio is my proudest sporting achievement so far. Outside my sporting career, (education wise) I’m most proud of being in the “Presidents List” in my Southwestern Community College in Iowa, USA (given to students who acquire 3.0+ Grade Point Average).

Meeting Champions

“I’m looking forward to meeting all those world champions (in track) that I look up to and making new friends. Just the experience and exposure I would get in being part of the event.”

Seavula will compete in the 100metres and 200metres.
