Eighteen-year-old, Taina Halasime is one of the two Tongan athletes that arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last night ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Halasime and male athlete Siueni Filimone are participating in the 100m race and they booked their spots through universality place.

“This is my first Olympic Games,” she said.

“It’s a huge honour for me to be at the games and represent my country. When we come from smaller countries and see the atmosphere and facilities around here it’s just amazing.”

Halasime said there are lots of lessons to take back home.

“This is good exposure me and I know there is a lot of learning experiences I can take back from here. Especially when we learn from professional athletes, I know I’m still young still and have a long way to go. I like the weather in Rio and I’m enjoying the Olympic atmosphere,” she added.
