Oi (Bula) from the Rio Olympic Village. Wednesday evening here in Rio ended with the meeting of chef de missions from the Pacific Islands focussing on the Pacific Village in Rio.

The meeting focussed their discussions on the Oceania flag-bearer naming ceremony at Urca Beach which is close to Copacabana.

With national holiday being declared for Thursday and Friday here, Rio de Janeiro organisers are expecting a packed Urca Beach to witness Pacific style ceremony.

The ceremony brings together the 15 island countries: American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The ceremony at Urca Beach is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Sports Ministers and other dignitaries. The programme is expected to be shown live on national television.

As I put pen to paper, the Tuvalu contingent is the last of the Pacific Islands to get a delegation into the Rio Olympic Village.

Seven Fijian journalists have also arrived and expected to attended the flag ceremony. Transportation to and from sporting venues continues to e the major hurdle one day from the Official Opening Ceremony of Rio 2016.

Four Fijian journalists had to pay their taxi fare after they missed the final bus to their accommodation.

We trying to get all our media from the region invites/passes to the opening ceremony. I’m confident that we’ll be able to launch the new ONOC website before the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games at the Maracana Stadium. So until tomorrow,  ‘boa noite’ (good night).
