I didn’t give-up even though I was the 13th men, says Team Fiji men’s rugby sevens forward Masivesi Dakuwaqa.

Dakuwaqa was named the reserve player for the Olympics and travelled with the team to Rio.

Yesterday, he took the field against Japan in the medal semi-final and also played in the final against Great Britain. He was given the green light after Savenaca Rawaca had to be rested because of injury.

“Even though I was called as the 13th man, I still prepared myself well,” he said.

“I continued training with the boys and finally I want to thank God and Ben for giving me this chance to play. I thank the boys for all the efforts that they have contributed and also I want to dedicate this win to all Fijians, our family and everyone that has supported us in this journey.”

Rio Dream Team

Three members of the Rio Olympics gold medal winning team were named in the World Rugby’s Rio Dream Team. They are Team Fiji men’s rugby sevens captain, Osea Kolinisau, powerhouse winger, Josua Tuisova and robust forward Semi Kunatani.

Also part of the team are forwards James Davies of Great Britain and South African captain Kyle Brown. In the backs are Dan Bibby of Great Britain and Japan’s Lomano Lemeki.
