Lt Col Ravunakava Takes Over Fijian  Batt Command

Lieutenant Colonel Kalitabua Daunivakasala Ravunakana took over as the Commanding Officer role of the Fijian  peacekeeping Battalion serving with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) at Camp Ziouani on Monday, August 29.

The Deputy Force Commander General (DFC), Brigadier-General Mauri Tapani Koskela (Finland) while handing over the 1FIR Colour and responsibilities of Commanding Officer of Fijian 4th Battalion in the Golan Heights stated that he was confident with Lieutenant-Colonel Ravunakana due to his vast experience in various peace keeping missions.

“I have confidence with the incoming Fiji Batt Commanding officer who is capable of shouldering the huge task of peacekeeping in the Golan Heights and meeting peacekeeping challenges professionally,” Brigadier-General Koskela said.

Brigadier-General Koskela highlighted during the hand over parade that the UNDOF was gearing up for its transition process from Israel to the area of separation according to United Nations Resolution 423.

“The UNDOF is preparing for its return to the area of separation which is the actual location of the mission to be situated between Syria and Israel,” he said.

He said he was optimistic  Fijian Battalion would contribute positively to the UNDOF transition process.

Lieutenant Cololonel Ravunakana told the 18 officers and 270 men and women of the Fijian 4th Battalion serving with UNDOF in the Golan Heights to work as a unit to achieve UNDOF goals.

“I remind you that camaraderie, teamwork and dedication to duty are important aspects for our effort in undertaking our peacekeeping role to achieve the UNDOF goals,” he said.

The outgoing Commanding Officer Lieutenant Cololonel Seremaia Tuikoro and his remaining outgoing troops departed from Ben Gurion Airport, in Tel Aviv in Israel on their flight to Fiji.
