Vodafone Fijian 7s forward Pio Tuwai is making a comeback. He was the coach/player for the First Landing rugby sevens team that took out the Navakawau Sevens tournament at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.

First Landing proved too strong for Yamacia Reds in the final winning 35-19 to claim the $3000 prize money while Yamacia settled for $1000.

Tournament organiser Mika Cabelawa said it was a good tournament but they could would give the teams their cash prizes on Monday.

“It was unfortunate we could not do it today because of the delay from our sponsors but Monday it should be given to them,” he said.

Through Tuwai’s guidance the side withstood a strong challenge from Buca Babaas before storming away with a 28-7 win to proceed to the playoffs and never looked back.

“We have identified our weaknesses and would work on it to ensure that it is not repeated,” Tuwai said.

“I thank the boys for a job well done. We had formed this team a week ago and most of these boys are not new to sevens and we are hoping to be at our best when we participate in other tournaments around the country as well.”

Tuwai said the last time he had played was during the build-up to the Rio Olympic Games before he was ruled out due to a leg injury.

“I’m still working on my fitness after I got injured during the Rio Olympics preparation,” he added.
