Youth Empowerment Through Surfing
Last week saw the AGM for the Fiji Surfing Association held at the Beach house on the Coral Coast. There was an excellent attendance and all the 8 boardriding clubs were represented. Each of the clubs gave an overview of their membership, social media numbers and in general what’s been happening in their area. Activities like club days, training days and even beach cleanups have been activities that appear to be happening.
With all positions being made vacant those present voted in as president Isei Tokovou, vice-president Romeo McKellar, secretary John Philip, treasurer Andy Eames and club representative Romeo McKellar. A bit of a shuffle with some new faces as well. Get to know them and find out how you can be involved or get assistance from FSA.
One initiative highlighted was the offer of a free junior coaching clinic for all the boardriding clubs at their location. Nabila has already locked in a date for their juniors. Get your club to organise a date for you. The FSA also highlighted their desire to pay for services provided instead of just relying on volunteers. Find out more through your club or an FSA committee person.
GIRLS SURFING DAY!
Next Saturday, 24th September, the Girls Go Surfing Day is on at Natadola. The day usually sees 50 females of varying age join in to experience surfing in a safe supportive environment. Thanks to our sponsor Vatuvara there will be free transport from Suva and from Nadi. There are limited seats so book in early.
The day will consist of an informative look at marine environment, surfing lessons and a light lunch. You can bring your own equipment or use our soft surfboards if you wish. Booking for equipment is essential so we can have enough for everyone.
MORE TO COME
All our coaches are FSA accredited and trained in best practices to ensure the best instruction possible for you. You can also obtain contacts for future lessons and on the nearest boardriding club to you.

Coming up on 15th October there will be a Grommet training session at Natadola. All grommet surfers are encouraged to participate. It will provide excellent practice for the Rip Curl Micro Grommet Series starting 22nd October. Keep your eye out for the flyers or ask your club for all the details.
