18 Districts For Muslim IDC In Labasa

Teams from 18 districts will feature in the Vanua Levu Muslim Inter-District Championship (IDC) which starts on Friday and the finals set for October 2 at Subrail Park in Labasa.

The annual event is organised by Vanua Levu Muslim Sports Association which is the sports wing of Macuata Muslim League Fiji.

The event was started in the 1980’s by pioneers such as the late Rahiman Kutty, Haji Aziz Beggand Sheik Ibrahim.

Vanua Levu Muslim IDC general secretary Mashud Ali said the tournament was aimed at uniting all communities in Fiji and abroad.

“There are 18 districts as far as Taveuni, Savusavu, Bua and Nadogo are taking part again this year,” Ali said.

“There will be 12 teams in the Super Premier division and 12 teams in the Premier division drawn in two pools.

Last year the winner in the Super Premier division was Wailevu team and Taveuni won the Premier division.”

“This year the SP winner will get $3,000; runner up $1,500, third place $400 and fourth place $300,” Ali said.

“The Premier division winner will receive $2,000, $1,000 to the runner up, Plate winner $200 and Bowl winner gets $100.

“The best discipline district will be awarded $250 and best player each day gets a trophy. The aim of this IDC is to increase brotherhood and sisterhood with all races of people regardless of their ethnicity.

Funds raised will be used in the construction of a sports complex in Labasa estimated to cost $1m.”


Super Premier: Pool A: Wailevu, Nabekavu, Soasoa, Batinikama,Salove, Seaqaqa.

Pool B: Valebasoga, Korowiri, Nasea, Tabia, Savusavu, Vunimoli

Premier:Pool A: Taveuni, Nadogo, Valebasoga, Dreketi, Bua, Nasea.

Pool B: Wailevu, Tradravula, Seaqaqa, Tabia, Batinikama, Bulileka.
