McKee happy With Fijiana Turnout
Vodafone Flying Fijians head coach John McKee was pleased with the turnout for the Fiji women’s 15s fitness test at Buckhurst Park, Suva yesterday.
More than 20 women attended where they underwent a yo-yo endurance test with Fiji Rugby Union strength and conditioning coach Mack Cammock.
“It was good to see a number of girls show up for the fitness test and we can see that we are making steady progress in the build-up to the game at the end of the year,” McKee said.
“Most of the girls are playing for their local teams and training in their respective gyms so now we need to take it a step-up.
“We need to set-up a skills programme and a game plan which they can work on in time for the game against Papua New Guinea.
“But it is good to see they are regularly training.”
Fiji will be hosting its first ever women’s rugby Test match against PNG on November 5 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
This match will serve as the Oceania qualifiers for the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland.
The winner from the two will then qualify to the repechage in Hong Kong which will feature two teams from Asia and South Africa.
Australia and New Zealand are the only two teams from Oceania that have booked their berth to the tournament alongside Canada, USA, England, Wales, France, Ireland and Italy.
A total of 12 teams will qualify for next year’s WRWC.
