Hupfeld Shares Costume Elements
Miss World Fiji Pooja Priyanka met with local designer, Hupfeld Hoerder who is working on her national costume. The costume involves elements representing our diverse cultures.
He believes that Ms Priyanka will bring the Miss World 2016 crown home.
“Pooja has been exposed to a lot of beauty pageants and I am determined that she will make it to the finals and win the title for her home,” Mr Hoerder said.
“I am working on her national costume which will be inclusive of elements from all the cultures in Fiji and also comfortable for her to showcase during her dance performance,” he said.
Mr Hoerder said her costume is an Indian cultural costume but he will be using elements like masi, mother pearl shells, coconut sieve net and other materials.
“This costume will enhance her appearance and will complement Pooja’s dance performance,” Mr Hoerder said.
Mr Hoerder is an accomplished fashion stylist and designer with over 25 years of experience in the industry.
He had represented Fiji at the World Fashion Week in the Bahamas where selected pieces of his collection were photographed and circulated in fashion magazines in New York.
Ms Priyanka said her Beauty with a Purpose project would focus on the relief efforts following the devastation by Tropical Cyclone Winston.
“We will be going to a village in Tailevu on Friday (tomorrow) and we are working on building a seawall for the village which was badly affected by TC Winston,” Ms Priyanka said.
Pageant national director, Andhy Blake said Ms Priyanka will make it to the top finals as she has been ranked top ten on the popularity poll around the world.
“Currently, Pooja is in sixth place in the popularity poll and we expect it to rise before the Miss World Pageant,” Mr Blake said.
Ms Priyanka departs for the US on November 25.
Miss World Pageant will be televised live on FBC TV on December 18 at 9pm.
