Taviya Village Commends Government, Fijians Living In Australia For Assistance
About $15,000 worth of relief items donated around the country particularly Levuka
The village of Taviya has commended the Fijian Government for facilitating the transportation of overseas relief items.
Taviya was one of the many villages affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston in February.
“I thank the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Education for facilitating the transportation of these relief items to the village and to other villages in Levuka,” village headman Sitiveni Sovaki said.
Mr Sovaki also acknowledged the Brisbane Collective team and Fijians living in Australia for the donation of educational materials and hospital items that would go towards the Levuka hospital.
Speaking on behalf of Brisbane Collective team Mela Tuqiri said they collected about $15,000 worth of relief items most of which were donated around the country and particularly Levuka.
“We would like to thank the Fijian Government for facilitating the transportation of the seven containers that was brought to Fiji,” Ms Tuqiri said.
The donations will be distributed to the villagers by the end of this week.
