Midfield general Malakai Tiwa sealed the win as Ba staged a fightback to beat Suva 2-1 in a pulsating clash at Govind Park in Ba last night.

The Imdad Ali-coached side is on track to claim their Vodafone Premier League competition.

The ‘Men in Black’ also extended their lead in the points standing to 22 points, seven wins from nine matches.

What happened: Kelvin Naidu opened the scoring when he slammed the ball past Suva’s Manasa Nawaikula and goalkeeper  Josaia Ratu in the 7th minute.

Ba strikers Tiwa and Saula Waqa tried hard to penetrate the Suva defence but their targets were either feeble or off target.

But their persistence paid off in the 44th  minute as Tiwa’s brilliant volley beat goalkeeper Tevita Koroi.

Halftime: Ba 1 – 1 Suva.

In the second half, Ba were a better team as they took advantage of Suva’s shaky defence.

In the 57th minute Suva’s Kaliova Tuivulu fouled striker Samuela Nabenia outside the penalty box.

Tiwa scored to the delight of the Ba fans.

Star turn: Tiwa was the star player for Ba.

Big play: Newcomers Patrick Senivalati and Patrick Newa played well for Ba.

Ba manager Arvind Singh said: “Win is very important as we chase our 20th league title. Three points is what we need in this important match.”

Suva coach/player Pita Rabo: “We started well but Ba is a more experienced side but nothing to take way from our boys.”
