The Babasiga Lions beat Nadroga 1-0 at Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday. The Stallions still remain at the bottom of the points table and are likely to be demoted to the Senior Division.

What happened: Both teams started strongly as they tried to score early in the match to boost their campaign. However, strong defence from both teams resulted in a scoreless first half.

Backed by their fans, Labasa kept on the pressure and were rewarded in the 65th minute when striker/ captain Apenisa Anare scored

Comments: Labasa Football Association vice-president Varun Anand said: “The boys played really well and I also like to thank our captain, Apenisa Anare for contributing to the win. I would also like to thank Pita Bolaitoga for a job well done in coaching the boys.”

Nadroga football coach Kaminieli Tuilawaki said: “We are preparing for everything, even for the worst. But I would like to show my great appreciation to the boys for playing well. We gave Labasa a good run for their money.”
