The Fiji Police Force expects four of their players, who took part in the Central Coast 7s last weekend, to join camp by Sunday as they prepare to defend the 2016 ANZ Ratu Sukuna Bowl on November 24.

Team manager Senior Superintendent Verani Nakauyaca is confident the full squad will be in camp by Sunday.

Kaponi Paul, Eroni Sau, Miti Nacagilevu and Joeli Lutumailagi will join the squad from the Central Coast 7s while the remaining five players are currently part of a three months course held at the Police Academy.

“We have already started our preparations and few players have yet to turn up for training. “But we are expecting the full team to be in camp on Sunday,” Nakauyaca said.

Nakauyaca said the players who took part in the Central Coast 7s will be a boost for the side.

“The players coming back from the Central Coast 7s will boost the team in general for the Sukuna Bowl,” he said.

“They have a wealth of experience taking part in a high profile sporting event and their experience and knowledge will be a boost for us.

“We are coming in as underdogs and that will be an advantage. The Republic of Fiji Military Forces have nothing to lose so they will be giving us everything. But we have everything to lose so it will be tougher for us this year.”

Meanwhile, RFMF team manager Major Apolosa Vere is confident the team will bring back the Ratu Sukuna Bowl to the Queen Elizabeth Barracks (QBE).

“For the RFMF it is nothing new, it is an ongoing event for the last couple of years and it is a tradition for both disciplined forces to meet up once a year in a sporting competition,” he said.

“We have a mixture of old, new and young players and the preparations for us have been going on for the last couple of weeks.

“The main mission for the RFMF and the rugby team this year is to bring back the Sukuna Bowl to the QEB and we will definitely do that.”
