The New Zealand men’s volleyball team qualifies for phase two of the World Cup qualifiers after beating the Fiji Whites 3-1 at the Vodafone Arena last night.

It was double celebration for the visitors after they won the zonal championships earlier on the day beating Fiji Blues 3-1.

New Zealand coach Colin Redpath commended Fiji’s gallant performance.

“We played two crucial matches in one day and the two Fijian teams were good,” he said.

“In the World Cup qualifiers game against Fiji Whites they were on us a few times.

“In New Zealand they are having the volleyball annual general meeting and they watched the games online and they are all really happy with the outcome.”

Meanwhile, Fiji Whites head coach Tevita Lewetuitovo said were not match ready.

“We missed our trainer, Peni Ratumaiyale, who had work commitments and it was evident we lacked fitness.”

New Zealand were too strong in the first set beating Fiji Whites 26-24. The Fijians regrouped and won second set 25-23, but the Kiwis won the third and final set 25-14 and 25-20.
