The Acting Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Veena Bhatnagar, yesterday paid tribute to the unspoken heroes who assist disabled children in having a normal upbringing.

The minister made this comment during the International Day for Disabled Persons at Tavua College.

“To the unspoken heroes that live in our very homes, toiling and ensuring that disabled children of today get a normal upbringing as much as possible,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

“To those parents, guardians, teachers, social workers and advocators of these beautiful children thank you for sharing your unconditional love bestowed on them who many a times, their voices are not heard.”

She complemented the work carried out by the Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons (FNCDP) for assisting the children in the Western Division from 2016 to 2017.

“The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation will be assisting 10 Disability Provider Organisations with a total $197, 500,” she announced yesterday.

“Also, the building of a new Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons in the West, together with a vehicle to assist its services. This will ensure the dissemination of services to the disabled population in the West.”

She said 2739 persons with disabilities in Fiji now that have access to the bus fare concession since it started in 2011.
