Dreketi Dux Aims To Follow Bill Gates
Prashant Lal, Dux of Dreketi Central College in Macuata Province, wants to become like his idol, Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft.
The 18-year-old of Tabia, Labasa said he wants to be Fiji’s first Microsoft engineer to work in Mr Gates’ company.
“I believe we should dream big and I have faith in myself to make my country proud,” Prashant said.
“I have done lot of research about Mr Gates and his company and I believe nothing is impossible when there is a will.
“Unlike others I used to eat and sleep after school and then wake up at 1am to study till I reach school,” he said.
“I would like to thank my parents for always encouraging me.
“Since my mother, Bindra Lal, is a teacher in this school, we lived in quarters and so daily I used to be in contact with teachers seeking extra help for revision.
“So basically I am very grateful to my parents, Principal EmosiKuli and teachers for helping me achieve my dream that was to scoop the Dux award,” he said.
Prashant is the eldest of two siblings and was senior prefect. He received all the five subject prizes and some recognition awards for his contributions.
His father, Prem Lal, 45, a sugarcane farmer and a former driver of China Railway said: “Sometimes it feels hard to accept the kind of career path he had chosen.
“However as a father I would continue to encourage him to do his best.”
