The 18-year-old student who had jumped off a moving car on Wednesday was discharged yesterday from the Labasa Hospital.

It is alleged that Aliya Dean of Soasoa, Labasa, had jumped off a moving vehicle, which was driven by a school teacher who had failed to stop despite numerous requests from her to do so.

Aliya’s father, Sahif Dean, 47, confirmed that his daughter was discharged yesterday.

“Aliya is still not able to walk properly as her pain and wounds are still fresh,” Mr Dean said.

“Aliya can still recall the horrific and painful experience.

“Her back is scratched, there is deep cut at the back of her head, some of her fingers are injured, and she has numerous cuts and bruises on her arms and legs.”

While lying on her bed, Aliya told Fiji Sun that she was sad.

“I am in so much pain and when I saw my father expressing his anger I came to realise that the teacher is still around,” Aliya said.

“Here I am suffering in pain.”

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “The 42-year-old teacher has been interviewed and released as we await further documents that will be submitted with the investigation file to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)’s office for sanctioning.”
