Competition For Natuvu/Taveuni Route
Grace Prasad Shipping & Landlords is ready for the competition on the shipping route from Natuvu to Taveuni.
Company chief executive officer (CEO) and ship captain, Ms Soniya Thakur told the Fiji Sun that she had heard that the Goundar Shipping Limited was bringing in the Lomaiviti Princess IV from South Korea to service the route.
“The new ship will pose no problems as I don’t think it will make any difference to our business,” Cpt Thakur said.
She said their company offered cheap fares to the passengers and they kept to their voyage schedule.
“So, no competition for us and we’re ready for it.”
Cpt Thakur said she heard of another company bringing in a $4 million dollars new vessel to service the same route.
“I’m waiting to see. I wish them luck and hope it will cater the cost too.”
According to Cpt Thakur her company provides a bus service from Labasa at 5.30am arriving at Savusavu at 6.30m and 7am at Natuvu. Passengers arrive at Taveuni at 11am.
From Taveuni the boat leaves the Korean Jetty at 7am and arrives at Natuvu at 8am.
Passenger’s board the company express and Natuvu to Savusavu and after 15 minutes break the bus leaves for Labasa.
A new boat “Return of Taveuni Princess 2 will soon be in operation either in December of early January 2017.
