Accused Raj To Take Plea On Dec 15
A 38-year-old man who is charged with absconding bail will take his plea on December 15.
Binesh Kumar Raj allegedly escaped from Police custody at the Saint Giles Hospital last month. He appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday before Magistrate Joji Boseiwaqa.
Raj was found hiding in Labasa and is charged with absconding bail.
He had requested the court for an order to allow him to be separated from other inmates because he claimed that two inmates, named Jerry and Peter, had mixed his food with Janola.
He also claims to have been assaulted by the Police at the Totonga Police Station while in custody.
Raj had been transferred to Naboro Prison after the alleged assault.
Magistrate Boseiwaqa advised Raj to consult the Police Commissioner to ensure his safety while in remand.
He also said Raj should consider that the Police do not have a lot of manpower to roster officers to look after him.
Raj is being given time to seek legal representation while in remand.
