Former coach Ben Ryan boosted the Vodafone Fijian 7s side ahead of the first leg in the World Sevens Series in Dubai today.
Acting coach Nacanieli Cawanibuka said it will be an added bonus having Ryan around.
“Ben will join us for the jersey presentations and the players are quite excited as they are really looking forward to meeting him,” Cawanibuka said.
“It will be good to have him in our midst and boost the morale of the players. The players are in high spirits and everyone is fit and healthy, the boys are just bursting with energy leading up to the tournament.”
Among the 12-member squad, Kalione Nasoko and Setareki Bituniyata will make their debut in the World Sevens Series and with the help of the experienced players in the team, Cawanibuka said they know what is expected of them.
“They have been really coming along well and obviously they have done a lot of hard work in their training back home,” he said.
“They are really blessed with the senior players to guide them and reinforcing in them the need to have confidence in their abilities and what they can contribute to the team and achieving the team outcome for this weekend.”
Facing Canada in their first game 7:52pm tonight, Cawanibuka said they are not defending their series title, but just like every other team, they are attacking it to win.
“Mentally the boys have been really switched on, everyone is in high spirits and everyone understands the job at hand,” Cawanibuka said.
“Today (yesterday) was the last day for the boys to have a last run together and to just be clear with roles and how we want to play the game
“We talked and reminded each other that we are not here to defend the series but we want to attack the series because we are just like every other team contending for the Dubai 7s title.
“It will require team effort and everyone will have to put their best foot forward and be the best version of themselves.”.
