Forty-year-old Margaret Seduadua was tested HIV positive when she was pregnant to her youngest child in 2003.

The mother of three has been diagnosed with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) for 14 years now, and still continues to fight her battle.

She shared this stroy  in commemoration of World Aids Day yesterday. However, Ms Seduadua has learned to address the virus positively, living a normal life.

She tells of how she was on the verge of giving up in the first stage after finding out she was tested HIV positive.

“When I was pregnant in 2003, I never knew that my husband was already positive,” she said.

“During my pregnancy, I went for clinic and that was when I found out that I was HIV positive.

However, it was good news for Ms Seduadua when she found out that her baby was tested HIV negative, after the delivery.

Upon finding out the news about her HIV positive situation, the Tailevu native admitted being suicidal.

“I wanted to commit suicide,” she said.

“I didn’t know anything about HIV because of the lack of information and I thought people with the virus would die.

“I thought I was going to die.”

Sadly, Ms Seduadua lost her husband the same year.

She remarried in 2004 to a HIV negative male.

The support from her family and friends is what keeps her on the journey of life.

“The support from my family and friends were good,” she said.

A few years later, she joined the Fiji Network for People Living with HIV and started to advance her knowledge about the virus.

The now HIV advocate advises the younger generation to find time to take educate themselves about the virus and most importantly, to always practice safe sex.
