Mohammed Zahid Abrar of Rifle Range, Lautoka a petrol-head and a car enthusiast since his primary school days now owns a navy blue 1983 Toyota Corolla KE30.

Mr Abrar’s blue baby is an old school neatly maintained 33-year-old car.

The registration of this navy blue Toyota Corolla is ‘YLD ONE’ meaning ‘Wild One’.

Modified Rides Fiji’s Shamir Khan has done the painting and bodywork for this shiny blue beauty.

Mr Abrar, director of Carpet Solutions and a proud member of the Modified Rides Fiji said he participated in a drag race for the first time on November 6, this year.

“Motorsports in Fiji is upgrading with numbers rapidly increasing in drag races and car shows,” he said.

“The roaring and revving sounds can be heard everywhere.

“The heart of YLD ONE is a Toyota Yamaha 3S-GE, with a diff of Nissan Skyline.

The navy blue 1983 Toyota Corolla KE30 has a four speed manual transmission which is a plus to its upgrade.

Mr Abrar said the Yamaha 3S-GE has boosted the car itself.

“Factory KE30 comes with a 4K motor, which is 1.3litre. The Yamaha 3S-GE is 2.0 Litre.”

Mr Abrar highlighted the spending on the car keeps on increasing.

“Recently I have imported Hoosier Drag Slicks,” he said.

These are racing tyres which offer uncompromised traction.

As the name implies, slicks have no tread so as to maximise the contact of the tyre.

Mr Abrar got these tyres imported from New Zealand for his car.

Only some parts for the upgrade of his car were available locally whilst performance with quality parts was imported from abroad.

Mr Abrar participated for the first time in the drag race and his timing in the race was 15.67s.

He will not take part in the upcoming drag race due to family commitments.
