The Craig McElrath Memorial Surfing Event
The surfing community will once again come together to honour Craig McElrath, admired surfer, philanthropist and past committee member of the Fiji Surfing Association. The event has been running since 2010 in honor of Craig.
Craig was a keen surfer who started surfing in Hawaii and the sport quickly became his passion. When he relocated to Fiji he continued his passion surfing mainly on longboards. He surfed every weekend and was always trying to help surfing develop here in Fiji. Craig was part of the Fiji Surfing Association, a secretary / treasurer and a hard working committee member. Unfortunately his life was cut short in 2010 after a battle with cancer.
The Craig McElrath memorial surfing event his a celebration of his life and passion for surfing. Sponsors McDonalds Restaurants and Namotu Island have supported the event over the years and are onboard again this year.
This years event is for Longboard surfers and Stand Up Paddle surfers, over 19 years and under 19 years. The surfing will be conducted around Namotu Island, Swimming Pools / Namotu Lefts / Wilkes, thanks to the invitation extended from Scotty and Mandy O’Connor. So drag out your SUP boards or dust off the mal and get an entry in.
There are 2 divisions for both the Longboaders and the SUPers, over 19 and under 19, Boat transfers will be from Nabila, times etc. will be forwarded to all competitors. There is definitely a limited number of spots so first in first surf!!. Contest date is 21st January 2017.
