Generally Fine Weather Expected On New Year’s Day

As the country prepares to welcome 2017, generally fine weather is predicted to prevail till the New Year’s Day.

Isolated brief showers are anticipated especially about the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands.

Any showers that may come by, is not going to be significant to dampen the New Year’s Celebrations.

A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving to the north of Fiji.

It is expected to drift southwards and start affecting the country from Monday.

The trough is anticipated to affect the group for few days.

Till Sunday, generally fine weather apart from isolated brief showers especially about the interior and eastern parts of larger islands.

At this time of the year, surface heating can be intense, thus hot and humid conditions could be expected with daytime temperatures likely to rise above 32 degrees centigrade in coastal areas.

However, from Monday, increasing cloudiness and occasional rain with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms are expected.

For Mariners: Southeast winds 15 to 20 knots with moderate to rough seas.

Moderate southeast swells. Winds becoming northeast to southeast from Monday.

Visibility will be poor in areas of heavy rain.

Members of the public are advised to keep updated with the latest weather information.
