‘He is our role model and a man who was loyal to his family, church and his work.’

Assemblies of God church general secretary Reverend Jone Sogowale yesterday praised Major Sefanaia Naulumatua Rayawa as a military officer on two fronts in the Home-going service at the Calvary Temple in Samabula in Suva.

Reverend Sogowale said not only was he in the army of men, but Major Rayawa was also in the army of God by spreading the word of God.

The service was attended by the President, Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote, Government officials, fellow officers of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces and about 600 family and friends.

“Tu Naulu, as known to us, was a man of God, one day he gave me the list of people he has decided to cut ties from because he wants to strengthen his walk with God, the journey with God is like walking on a narrow road and sometimes you need to walk alone,” he said

“He has fought a good battle and he fought that battle till his last breathe.”

Major Rayawa is survived by his wife, two children and a grandchild.

Major Rayawa’s son Ratu Peceli said in his eulogy that the role of a father was to build the foundation of his family on the word of God.

With tears rolling down his face, Ratu Peceli described his father as a ‘man who was true to the duty bestowed upon him’.

“He is our role model and a man who was loyal to his family, church and his work.

“Every morning when I wake up I will see him kneeling in prayers, this is what he taught us, that you can only overcome any challenges if you go to God in prayer,” he said.

Major Rayawa graduated with a Bachelor of Politics and Management and a Masters in International Relations from the University of the South Pacific.

He joined the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces in 1984 where he served in Sinai, Lebanon, Kuwait and East Timor on peace keeping duties.
