Semisi Matawalu is grateful after being named in the Fijian Barbarians 7s squad for the SUDAMERICA Rugby Sevens tournament in Uruguay and Chile.

The 20 year-old can’t wait to prove his worth after quitting school to play rugby five years ago.

‘I left school in 2012, spent one year in the village and I joined our rugby league team, Kurabui before I joined the Wardens team,”Matawalu said.

‘I joined the Fiji Corrections Service last year and played for Suva Under -20  during the Skipper Cup competition which we won, and I also was part of the national U20 team that won the Oceania Rugby Junior Trophy.”

The Nawailevu, Bua, Vanua Levu lad is thankful and looking forward to representing Fiji.

“When I joined camp, the level of training was different,”he said.

“I’m happy I made it through but this is just the first step. When it’s game time, you will have to prove yourself if you are worth wearing the white jersey.

‘I thank my family, my parents back in the village for their support.

‘My role model is Semi Kunatani as I like the way he plays.”

Older brother Isoa Masiloa is proud Matawalu.

‘He is the first one from my village to don the white jersey and we are all proud of him,”Masiloa said.
