A  resolution was passed at Natadola yesterday calling on nations to ratify the Paris Agreement on climate change.

They have also been asked to deposit their instruments of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession to the Paris Agreement.

The resolution was sponsored by South Korea, Mexico, Indonesia and Fiji. It is aimed at strengthening co-operation on climate change.

The resolution was approved by the plenary session of the 25th Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum at the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa.

Countries have been requested through the resolution to accelerate their domestic procedures to join the Paris Agreement.

The chair of APPF, Dr Jiko Luveni, highlighted that the impact of climate change clearly needed a regional action through the APPF for global solutions.

She said many other countries were vulnerable to the constant natural disasters.
